Bench Update Oct 11 2021

Quite a lot of progress on the CF-233 build Got the tailplanes on and a major gripe.  There is very little in terms of attachment points to ensure the tailplanes are aligned correctly.  Using my putty of choice, Perfect Plastic Putty from Deluxe Materials does make filling the large gaps a bit easier. I also got the landing gear and landing gear doors primed and the canopy masked. Decided to do it with Micromask as it was a fairly simple mask that had to be done. Priming was done with Stynylrez black primer. The complex curves of the aircraft, particularly on the top fuselage means care has to be taken when painting and priming to ensure the material does end up evenly across everything. Once this was allowed to dry for 24 hours the underside coat of AK Real Color RC252 was applied,  Just before painting one of the tailplanes…

Bench Update Sept 26

Not a lot of progress, due to the fact that your humble modeller and scribe had a small heart attack on the 15th.  Within a day I had two stents put in and two days later I was out of the hospital. Most important thing. When I started getting the pain in my chest and the night sweats I did the right thing and called 911. That is so important as the earlier the medical professionals can work on you the better. I finally got back to the bench late this week and was able to do a few small things.  I find (obviously) that I tire easily, and I am reminded not to push it.  Got the cockpit painted and the inlets for the engines painted.  I also got the fuselage halves glued together.  I find it’s easier to do this in sections.  There were some slight gaps towards…

YF-23 1/72 Italeri Unboxing

The YF-23 was in competition to the YF-22 in the ATF (Advanced Tactical Fighter) completion in which the YF-22 won, becoming the F-22 Raptor in the USAF.  The YF-23 had a faster speed and a greater range and many viewed it as a viable platform at the time. Overall a fairly straightforward-looking kit.  I didn’t realize how big the aircraft is.
