CF-199 Complete

Following several competition losses many design and engineering staff at Lockheed Martin, were headhunted by Avro Canada following the success of their CF-105 Arrow program.  By the late 70’s Avro was looking into the next generation of strike aircraft for the RCAF to meet its NATO comment in Europe for an aircraft that could assist in targeted attacks on Warsaw Pact airfields and other targets in the event of war breaking out. Thanks to the talent brought in from the Lockheed staff, Avro came up with a next-generation strike aircraft that could penetrate deep behind enemy lines and deliver precision strikes to targets of opportunity.   Thus the CF-199 Panther was born…. Thanks to Youtube viewer “cadmaven” for suggesting the name Panter for this build.

CF-199 Build Part 1

Not a high part count so assembly did not take much time.  I did add some nose weight with some liquid gravity and CA glue. Lots of adjustments and clamping were needed to get the two fuselage parts together. Like the previous YF-19 kit the vertical stabilizers have very little to aid in the connect position. Fortunately, the design of the fuselage did help. One bad thing, when prepping the canopy, it decided to meet up with a large blob of cement. I did try sanding it out but I was not happy with it. so it will end up being painted in a metallic colour as I did for the Angel interceptor.  A shame as the cockpit detail would have been more than passable. A few more bits and it’s ready for primer  A coat was airbrushed on and it looks good. I still have to decide what RCAF…
