1/72 CF-166XL Part 3
After the respray, I decide to back off on the weathering I had in mind and moved onto the decals and final assembly. I’m using decals from the latest IPMS Canada decal sheet. In this case, a set is designed for a CF-5. This will work well for the time period and role I want for the aircraft. The decals went down very well with the exception of one that decided to wrap around my finger and tear. Fortunately, it is one I describe as optional. The landing gear and gear doors were then added and the masking for the canopy was removed. The canopy was pre-tinted and meant as I predicted not much detail in the cockpit would be seen. Now that priming is done, the next decision is to decide on what colour scheme to do for this what-if build. I was looking at the early to mid-’80s as that was when the F-16XL made its first flight. Normally this would mean several more years until we see them in service and they would probably start having a low vis scheme -not what I want for this subject. I noticed that many of the CAF CF101 Voodoo had finished their careers in an overall gray colour. A bit of searching led to the colour known as Voodoo Gray There is quite a lot of debate out in the land of modelling internet forums about what colour is Voodoo Gray.
