Work continues on the Hasegawa 1/48 Typhoon Mk 1b.
First up was the cockpit. It goes together very logically and with a good fit across all pieces. It was then primed and painted with Tamiya XF-71 Cockpit Green (IJN) which is a close enough colour for RAF Interior Green.
The only aftermarket I have added are seatbelts from Kamizukuri, these are made from thin card and paper tape. They are very tiny, but with patience and a steady hand they turn out well.
The fit has been very good with only some slight filler required in spots. One area that several previous reviews had mentioned that there is sometimes a small gap in the wing roots. In several cases builder had to use some thin plasticard to fill the gap. After putting the wings on I made sure to tape them up to the correct dihedral. That seemed to result in a very slight gap, which will be easily filled in.
The tailplanes have an interlocking assembly, it is best to test fit these first as if the tabs are a fraction out of alinement the tailplanes will not fit in the fuselage. This picture also showed the landing gear tires that are pre-flattened.
Next, I moved on to prime and paint some of the smaller assemblies such as the landing gear and doors, as well as the propellor and exhaust ports.
Everything was primed with Stynylrez black primer/ The landing gear assembly was painted Vallejo’s Metal Color Aluminium while the exhausts per painted Vallejo Metal Color Pale Burnt Metal. IMHO these are some of the best metallic acrylics available.
Next steps will be weathering these parts as well as preparing the aircraft for priming.
Hasegawa is living up to everything I have read on the quality of this build.
