Bench Update March 6 2021

A change of focus back to the Ceirva Gyrocopter.

This is the first Miniart kit I have done and I was looking forward to the challenge.  I have heard that some people consider them over-engineered in terms of part count, and a first look at the parts and instructions, I can see where some people will say that.

Lots of tiny photo-etch for both the engine and cockpit areas.  It was in the cockpit tub I did find some things that made me scratch my head.  The front seatback support is an inverted triangle and several options were considered prior to assembly.  I did find the photoetch for the cockpit area quite challenging, and in the end, did not use all of it.  I have a 3-foot rule of modelling, if I can’t see a problem at 3 feet away then I am unlikely to spend the time to add the detail.

I know many people enjoy this aspect of the hobby, but it is not my favourite so I’d rather move on to things I enjoy. The cockpit tub does build up well in the end, but I feel the same look could have been achieved in a simpler way.

As usual, the detail work takes up quite a bit of the time and now that it’s done construction seems to move forward quickly.
